How do I join SWAT?

It’s easy to join our team! Check out our REGISTRATION INFORMATION page for more information on how to join SWAT.

What pools does SWAT train out of?

In the fall, winter, and spring our team rotates between the following HS pools: Franklin, Greenfield, Greendale, Muskego, New Berlin Eisenhower, New Berlin West, Whitnall, and West Allis Central.

In the summer our primary pool is the 50-meter pool at Wilson Park, with some afternoon and evening practices at the high schools.

What time is practice and how much does it cost?

Practice schedules vary by group and pool. For the protection of our athletes, you must be logged into the website as a member in order to see the practice schedules.

What training group should my child be in?

The coaches will decide which group is best for your child.  Each group has specific criteria that the swimmers must meet to be in that training group.  The coaches will evaluate each swimmer when they join the club and at the end of the season for advancement to the next group.

Our club is broken down into three general age categories, 8 and under, age group (9-12) and senior (13+). Within those age groups, our novice swimmers start in the white group, then progress to red, and finally blue.

Where can I find information about Masters training?

Information about our masters group can be found on the MASTERS TRAINING page. Our masters group trains on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at Greenfield HS.

How do I order team swimsuits, training equipment, and uniforms?

Information for team gear including swim caps, group-specific training equipment, team suits, etc. is located on our Team Gear page.

SWAT swim caps are required for all swim meets. Personalized caps are ordered once in September and once in March/April. Contact the Team Gear coordinator to purchase your cap.

Where can I find information about swim meets?

Hold your cursor over the "Events" option on the menu bar, then click "Team Events." All upcoming events (meets, sign-ups, social events, banquets, etc) are on the "Team Events" page.

You will receive an e-mail 7 days before the final entry deadline inviting you to sign-up on the SWAT website.

Click on our Swim Meet 101 flyer for helpful information about swim meets and how to prepare your swimmer.

How do I enter swim meets?

For all SWAT-hosted meets, all swimmers will be entered unless you "decline." It will be your responsibility to let us know if your child cannot attend. Failure to do so will result in entry fees being billed to your account.

  • You will receive an e-mail inviting you to sign-up on the SWAT website. Please pay close attention to sign-up deadlines! Those deadlines are rarely flexible, especially during COVID times.
  • You must be logged in using your password to sign up for meets.
  • When you find the meet on the Team Events list, choose the "Edit Commitment" button. You will have the choice to "Attend" or "Decline" the meet.
  • If you "Attend", a list of events will generate that your swimmer is eligible for. Each coach has a different policy on whether the coach should choose events or the athlete/family should choose events.
  • Use the "Notes" section to indicate and days your swimmer can or cannot attend a meet. This helps immensely with setting up relays. For example, if a meet is scheduled Friday through Sunday and your swimmer cannot attend on Saturday, just type "No Saturday" or something similar in the notes.

Parent Webinar on how to enter meets

Which meets should I enter?

Meet attendance and participation varies by each group. Swimmers should check with their coach to determine which meets to enter.

Some meets are also restricted to only certain training groups. That will be listed on the meet information.

What are Qualifying Time Standards? How do I find what the standards are?

Some of the meets that we attend require a "minimum time" in an event in order to participate. The season-ending state meets also requires meeting a minimum time standard. These are times that swimmers must achieve to attend the meet.

Most time standards can be found on the Time Standards page.

CLICK HERE for a quick rundown of how time standards work.

How do I check my Childs's entry?

After your entries are completed, you should see them on the bottom of the page when you click on "Edit Commitment."

Coaches make final approval of events within 48 hours after the registration deadline.

Once the events have a red checkmark - they are considered final.

What are meet fees and how do I pay them?

Swimmers are charged an "entry fee" for every event they sign up for. Fees per event range anywhere from $5 to $10 based on the type of meet and the meet host.

If your swimmer is chosen for a relay, the "relay fee" is split between the four swimmers on the relay team.

In some instances, the meet host charges a flat fee for the entire meet, but this is generally the exception rather than the rule.

Wisconsin Swimming also charges a $4.00 "splash fee" to cover administrative costs of Wisconsin Swimming at each meet.

Certain facilities (such as the Rec Plex and Schroeder Pool) also charge a "facility fee" in addition to the "splash fee."

Please read the Meet Entry Policy when to pay meet fees.

How do I find my child’s times and results?

Our swimmers' times are posted in 4 different places on the website.

1. Full meet results are listed under Team Events and then "Past and Archived" for each past meet.

Either select Participate to show up in search results, or Do Not Participate if you would prefer not to show up in search results. Keep in mind, members must be logged in to view any other team member's contact information.

How do I find out about practice schedules and changes to the practice schedule?

Practice schedules for each training group are posted on the SWAT website. Hover over "Swim Team" then choose "Practice Schedules."

Due to Safe Sport guidelines, you must be logged in to see our practice schedules.

Immediate changes due to weather or pool mechanical issues will be made via e-mail, text messages (if opted in), and the On Deck app.

General schedule changes will be made on the Practice Schedule link. The link is a Google Sheet that automatically updates.

The SWAT phone hotline will be discontinued as of March 2021.

How do I find information about Fundraising?

Click on the Fundraising page for more information. All SWAT fundraising is optional, but a portion of funds raised by each family can be used to reduce training fees.

Volunteering for Meets - What is required:

SWAT typically hosts 2-3 meets each season. Each family is required to help out at each of our SWAT-hosted meets. The number of sessions required may vary by season, but all families benefit from the revenue generated by hosting meets and are expected to help even if your swimmer is not entered in that meet.

To find out more or contact the volunteer staffing coordinators, check out the VOLUNTEER page for more information.

How do I contact a coach?

Click Coaches at the top left of the website pages for each coach's e-mail address. Each coach has a dedicated "@swimswat.org" e-mail that should be used for SWAT-related questions.

What is USA Swimming and why do I pay extra for that?

SWAT is a club member of USA Swimming, Inc. and Wisconsin Swimming, Inc., which operates locally as a Local Swim Committee (LSC).  All registered group members of SWAT need to be members of USA Swimming.  With this, swimmers have liability insurance at all USA Swimming-approved events, practices, and meets.  Additionally, swimmers will receive a copy of the SPLASH magazine published by USA Swimming and have an opportunity to participate in meets and special camps, and other special events sponsored by USA Swimming and Wisconsin Swimming.

USA Swimming is the national governing body for amateur competitive swimming in the United States.  USA Swimming divides the country into 59 Local Swimming Committees (LSC).  As the national governing body for the sport, USA Swimming is charged with the responsibility to formulate rules, conduct national championships, disseminate safety and sports medicine information, select competitors to represent this country in international competition, and ensure the development of its member club and age group swimmers.  USA Swimming is the ruling body of sanctioned swimming meets in the United States for meets in which SWAT participates.
